Product Description
Our formulation is a special bone building formula of Calcium Citrate, Omega-3-marine triglycerides, Boron, Folic acid, Mecobalamin, Vitamin K2-7 and Calcitrol. This combination works synergistically and promotes bone health. The bone health declines because of low calcium levels which causes loss of bone diseases such as osteoporosis (abnormal loss of bone), osteopenia (loss of bone that is when body doesn't make new bones as quickly as it is absorbed), and post menopausal osteoporosis (it occurs after menopause - the estrogen level decreases and results in bone loss).
Causes of Bone Loss:
- Ageing â bone strength is reduced because more bones are broken than that can be made (osteopenia)
- Alcohol- excessive alcohol increases the risk of osteoporosis
- Eating disorders can lead to loss of bone density
- Hormones- a drop in estrogen level can also cause lose in bone strength. It mainly occurs after menopause
- Smoking
- Low vitamin D can reduce the absorption of calcium
Indications & Usage:
- Osteoporosis
- Osteopenia
- Post menopausal osteoporosis
- Maintaining integrity of bones
- Maintaining calcium level in body
- Beneficial in bone health
Rationale of Combination:
- The Calcitriol (active metabolite of vitamin D3) helps the body to absorb calcium but when given in combination with Vitamin K2-7, the vitamin K2-7 directs the calcium to the part where it is needed. This prevents the toxicity of calcium
- Omega-3 promotes bone strength well when it is combined with Boron
- Calcium citrate malate in conjugation with Calcitrol reduces the bone fracture risk in elderly
Calcium Citrate Malate:It is a water soluble form of calcium. It is made by mixing calcium salt found in citric acid with malic acid. It is better than other alkaline forms of calcium such as calcium carbonate. It has better bioavailability than other forms as it gets dissolved in cell membranes and increases the bone density. It is recognized as calcium source that does not increase the risk of kidney stone and protect against stone forming potential.
Mechanism:It promotes calcium absorption in the intestine and retention at kidney thus, increasing serum calcium levels and decreasing serum phosphate levels. It is absorbed even in the absence of gastric acid.
Omega-3 Marine Triglycerides: It is an essential fatty acid. It is essential for healthy membranes of body. It increases bone mineral content and produces healthier stronger bones.
Mechanism:
- Omega-3 increases bone mass by increasing the absorption of calcium in the body and eliminates the amount of calcium lost in urine, improves bone strength and enhances bone growth
- It decreases the number and activity of bone destroying cells thus, reducing inflammation and in return reduces post-menopausal body loss
Boron:Boron is an essential trace mineral, important for bone health. It is required for proper metabolism and utilization of bone building factors which keeps the skeletal structure strong. It conserves minerals in body and enhances estrogen for overall hormonal balance.
Boron promotes less urinary loss of calcium, and helps the body to utilize calcitriol better which is important for healthy bone formation.Vitamin K2-7:There are two forms of vitamin K- K1 and K2. Vitamin K2 plays an important role in bone health as K1 quickly disappears after being absorbed. The MK-7 form of Vitamin K2is beneficial as it activates greater form of osteocalcin (protein found in bone). It is dependent on vitamin K for synthesis).
- Vitamin K2-7 is important for long term bone health
- It increases the bone density and reduces risk of osteoporosis in post menopausal women
- It helps calcium and other minerals bind into bone matrix to strengthen bones
- It keeps calcium inside the bones and out of the arteries
- It is effective in not just stopping bone loss but also reversing osteoporosis as well
Mechanism:Osteocalcin is a calcium regulating protein that is controlled by vitamin K2. When vitamin K is present, osteocalcin normally undergoes process called carboxylation, which binds osteocalcin to the mineral portion of bone. So, vitamin K is essential as osteocalcin cannot perform the function of regulation of calcium.
Calcitriol:Calcitriol is the most active metabolite of vitamin D3 and is effective in treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis.
Calcitriol increases the bone mass and reduces the fracture risk.
Mechanism:Calcitriol increases blood calcium levels by promoting absorption of calcium from the intestine and increasesthe renal tubular reabsorption of calcium, thus reducing the loss of calcium in the urine. Calcitriol also stimulates release of calcium from bone by its action on the specific type of bone cells referred to as osteoblasts (a cell which secretes the substance of bone).
Mecobalamin and Folic Acid:Mecobalamin and Folic acid are commonly known as vitamin B12, vitamin B9 respectively. They are water soluble vitamins. Mecobalamin and Folic acid are important for metabolism of homocysteine, as high level of homocysteine increases the risk of osteoporosis.
Drug Interactions:
- Warfarin interacts with vitamin K
- Cholestryamine may impair intestinal absorption of calcitriol
Side Effects:Contraindication:This combination should not be given to the patients with hypocalcaemia and should not be given to any patient hypersensitive to any of the ingredients.
